What's the diving like?

Remote offshore pinnacles with ripping currents, deep walls, and serious pelagic action. Expect oceanic whitetips, hammerheads, threshers (seasonal), mantas, and pristine coral. Visibility often exceeds 30 m, water 22–29 °C, and dives are exposed, demanding, and unforgettable.

Why work here?

This is Egypt’s most elite recreational diving circuit. Fewer tourists, higher guest expectations, and better pay than resort or day-boat work. Ideal for experienced instructors and guides who are comfortable offshore, in currents, and managing advanced divers.

When do I apply?

  • Liveaboards crew up early

  • Main hiring: February–March for spring peak

  • Secondary hiring: July–August for the autumn season

  • Most boats finalise teams before each peak, late applications will struggle.

What's the pay like?

  • Liveaboard Instructors / Guides: USD $1,500–2,500 /month (salary + trip tips)

  • Divemasters / Deck Guides: USD $1,200–1,800 /month + tips

  • Accommodation & meals: Included onboard

Tips and repeat charters can significantly boost monthly totals.

What Visa is needed?

  • Work requires a Work Permit and Residency sponsored by the liveaboard operator.

  • Some divers work on tourist visas in practice, but this is not legal and carries risks.

Visa rules change — this is general information only. Always confirm requirements with Egyptian Immigration or your employer.

What’s the industry like?

  • Languages: English (essential), Spanish, German, and French are in high demand.

  • Dive Focus: Advanced guiding, deep profiles, current management, and safety

  • Style: Strict procedures, detailed briefings, and strong risk management

  • Main Agencies: PADI dominates, with a few Liveboards operating with SSI

What's life like at work?

Long days, high responsibility, and minimal spending. Early starts, 3–4 dives per day, detailed briefings, safety checks, tank fills, and constant weather monitoring. You live onboard for 7–10-day trips, repeating the cycle all season.

How's life after work?

Between trips, you’ll rest in Hurghada or Port Ghalib. Simple accommodation, gym time, cheap meals, and catching up on sleep. Social life revolves around crew dinners and preparation for the next departure.
